Introduction
Calf implants are a procedure to increase the size and shape of the calf , resulting in a more defined and muscular appearance. Most calf implant patients have lower legs that are out of proportion from their upper legs. Men may be seeking added bulk, while women may desire sexier contours in their lower legs.
What does the calf implants surgery involve?
Incisions can be placed behind the knee in the crease and these become imperceptible. The space is made exactly in the right place for the implant. This is above the lateral or medial gastrocnemius muscle or both. These muscles are usually very small. The tough ligament above the muscle (the fascia) is incised to prevent too much pressure.
How long does the calf implants surgery take?
General anesthesia is most commonly used during placement of calf implants. The surgery takes approximately two hours to complete. An overnight stay in the hospital is recommended
What will happen in the recovery period?
It maybe painful to walk for about 2-4 days but any pain after implant surgery will be controlled with medication. There are no stitches to remove. They are all dissolvable. Swelling is moderate for the first week then gradually resolves as with most surgery.
What is the recovery time?
Most patients can resume very light walking and activities after the first week following calf implant surgery. Patients usually want to plan at least one week off work. You are usually able to return to full physical activities within 4-6 weeks.
What can I expect from the calf implants surgery?
You have to be realistic however most patients find that the results are enlarged, full, contoured, athletic, balanced lower legs . After calf implant surgery, the legs appear more shapely and defined.
